That goes a long way of easing the pain from the Thursday Night Paint Cup defeat

We needed a 4-0 win to push Sheffield United off the 7th spot place but that did not happen as we could not add to the 3-0 half time lead.

Gregory bangs in the penalty and his 13th goal of the season and his second of the game which helps us secure our first home win in all competitions since beating Bury 1-0 on November the 28th.

I sensed that the team really wanted to win this game after the failure of Thursday night and with Jordan Archer back in goal they set about the task. Aiden O'Brien also started this one and with Shane Ferguson starting on the left of the defence we quickly started banging on the Port Vale door. Steve Morison went close with just a few minutes on the clock and O'Brien was slinging crosses into the Vale box. Jed Wallace sent in  a peach of a ball and Lee Gregory on 14 minutes showed me a part of his game that I haven't seen before as he rose and stretched and sent in a looping header that left their keeper for dead as it sailed into the net. Make no mistake this was not a run of the mill headed goal, he had a lot to do.

2nd half, tussle in the corner and every ball needs to be won

He scored another one 20 minutes later when he was bought down in the box. As the picture above shows he beat the keeper who went the right way and we were 2-0 up. Gregory has twelve goals now and is on course for a decent tally this season. We were buzzing and goal number three looked as though it wouldn't be long and just before half time Steve Morison duly obliged stroking home after controlling the ball after it pinged to him after yet another Gregory effort was blocked.
3-0 to the Wall and as I mentioned above if we score another and we do not concede we can go above Sheffield United  in 7th place on goal difference.

Port Vale made two substitutions for the start of the second half and had a bit more zest, I presume they got a half-time rollicking and scored after fifteen minutes.with a shot that Jordan Archer had no chance with.. We kept the opposition away from scoring for the rest of the game and had numerous chances our selves to add to the score. A solid home win and that's the way it should be.
